Scottsdale Arizona used to be a great suburb to live in. Now, it's just full of rich poseurs ($30k millionaires)who make fast cash during the phony real estate boom but who are at their core, trashy and have no class.

Real Estate Agents - STOP CALLING ME!!!!!

STOP CALLING MY HOUSE ALREADY!!! Yes, I know my house just dropped off the MLS and there's a good reason; it's NOT a good time to sell. If I wanted to list my house again, I'd use my previous realtor. And a word of advice, if I say I'm not interested DON'T KEEP PUSHING THE FUCKING POINT!!! That's the kind of behavior that will assure that I'll NEVER EVER deal with you.

Listen slick, I realize that you probably quit your previous teaching or car sales job to ride the real estate boom and now you can't afford the lease payment on your E350, but please LOSE MY NUMBER!!!!

WOMAN'S LOVE POEM

Before I lay me down to sleep,
I pray for a man, who's not a creep,
One who's handsome, smart and strong
One who loves to listen long,
One who thinks before he speaks,
One who'll call, not wait for weeks.
I pray he's gainfully employed,
When I spend his cash, won't be annoyed.
Pulls out my chair and opens my door,
Massages my back and begs to do more.
Oh! Send me a man who'll make love to my mind,
Knows what to answer to 'how big is my behind?'
I pray that this man will love me to no end,
And always be my very best friend.

The Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, "My son, the battle is between two "wolves" inside us all..

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grand son thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

UN fires tear gas at Serb protesters:

KOSOVSKA MITROVICA, Kosovo - U.N. police are firing tear gas at 5,000 Serb demonstrators trying to cross a key bridge in the ethnically divided city of Kosovoska Mitrovica.

Police fired the canisters Friday afternoon in an attempt to keep the protesters off the bridge separating the Serb and ethnic Albanian sides of the city — a flashpoint of tensions in Kosovo's restive north.

The demonstrators waved Serbian flags and chanted "Kosovo is ours!" on their fifth day of protests since Kosovo's ethnic Albanian leaders declared independence from Serbia on Sunday.

illegals v Crime

Remember that a big part of 'American crime' is perpetrated by illegal aliens. If we get them the hell out of our country we will have removed a good part of the criminals in our country. We can't deport or run out those criminals who are legal citizens but we CAN get rid of the ones who aren't by making it impossible for them to survive here.

America is becoming a police state.

A 30-year-old man was arrested at a Mesa Arizona bar Thursday afternoon after urinating on the bar lead to a fight, said police.
Bernardino Arteaga, of Tempe, was at a bar near Main Street and Dobson Road around 1:30 p.m. and began urinating against the bar, according to a report.
An employee told Arteaga to clean up the mess and leave.
Arteaga pushed the employee and swung a bicycle lock cable at her, hitting her in the knee, and then punched her in the head several times, according to the report.
A customer put Arteaga in a headlock and told him to calm down. Arteaga head-butted the customer and a fight broke out between the two men, police said.
Another customer stepped in and the two men were able to pin Arteaga to the ground until police arrived.
Police found a bag of marijuana in Arteaga's pocket, and arrested him on suspicion of disorderly conduct, two accounts of assault and possession of marijuana.

In 1986, Dan Harrison ( see picture above ) was on holiday in? Kenya?after graduating from? Northwestern? University
On a hike through the bush, he came across a young bull elephant standing with one leg raised in the air. The elephant seemed distressed, so Dan approached it very carefully.
He got down on one knee and inspected the elephant's foot and found a large piece of wood deeply embedded in it.
As carefully and as gently as he could, Dan worked the wood out with his hunting knife, after which the elephant gingerly put down its foot.
The elephant turned to face the man, and with a rather curious look on its face, stared at him for several tense moments.
Dan stood frozen, thinking of nothing else but being trampled. Eventually the elephant trumpeted loudly, turned, and walked away.
Dan never forgot that elephant or the events of that day.
Twenty years later, Dan was walking through the Chicago Zoo with his teenaged son.
As they approached the elephant enclosure, one of the creatures turned and walked over to near where Dan and his son Dan Jr. were standing.
The large bull elephant stared at Dan, lifted its front foot off the ground, and then put it down. The elephant did that several times then trumpeted loudly, all the while staring at the man.
Remembering the encounter in 1986, Dan couldn't help wondering if this was the same elephant.
Dan summoned up his courage, climbed over the railing and made his way into the enclosure. He walked right up to the elephant and stared back in wonder. The elephant trumpeted again, wrapped its trunk around one of Dan's legs and slammed him against the railing, killing him instantly.

Probably wasn't the same elephant?

HAGATNA, Guam- A B-2 stealth bomber plunged to the ground shortly after taking off from an air base in Guam on Saturday, the first time one crashed, but both pilots ejected safely, Air Force officials said.

A B-2 stealth bomber taxis at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, in a 2005 photo.

The aircraft was taking off with three others on their last flight out of Guam after a four-month deployment, part of a continuous U.S. bomber presence in the western Pacific. After the crash, the other three bombers were being kept on Guam, said Maj. Eric Hilliard at Hickham Air Force Base in Hawaii.

At least one B-2 bomber had taken off safely from Andersen Air Force Base but was brought back when another aircraft plunged to the ground.

There were no injuries on the ground or damage to buildings, and no munitions were on board. Each B-2 bomber costs about $1.2 billion to build.

Thick, black smoke could be seen billowing from the wreckage at Andersen, said Jeanne Ward, a resident in the northern village of Yigo who was on the base visiting her husband. Watch smoke rise from crash site.

Crowds began to gather as emergency vehicles arrived. "Everybody was on their cell phones, and the first thing everyone wanted to know was did the pilots make it out in time," she said.

The Air Force, without identifying the pilots, said one was medically evaluated and released, and the other was in stable condition at Guam Naval Hospital.

A board of officers will investigate what caused the aircraft to crash at 10:30 a.m., shortly after taking off from a runway. It was the first crash of a B-2 bomber, said Capt. Sheila Johnston, a spokeswoman for Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia.

All 21 stealth bombers are based at Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri, but the Air Force has been rotating several of them through Guam since 2004, along with B-1 and B-52 bombers.

The rotations are designed to boost the U.S. security presence in the Asia-Pacific region while other U.S. forces diverted to fight in the Middle East.

The B-2 was first publicly displayed in 1988 and took its first flight a year later. The first bomber was delivered to Whiteman in 1993.

The bombers on Guam were scheduled to return to Missouri now that six B-52s from the 96th Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, have arrived to replace them.

The distinctive B-2 is described as a "multi-role bomber" that blends stealth technology with a highly efficient aerodynamic design. It is able to deliver large payloads at great range and has been used in combat over Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The accident occurred 11 days after a Navy plane crashed into the ocean about 20 miles northeast of Guam's Ritidian Point. Four aircrew members ejected from the EA-6B Prowler electronic warfare aircraft and were rescued by helicopter.

Guam is a U.S. territory 3,700 miles southwest of Hawaii.

Rural Nevadans begin cleanup after rare quake

WELLS, Nevada- A powerful earthquake damaged hundreds of homes, toppled chimneys and reduced part of a historical district to rubble, but residents of rural Wells, Nevada, town are grateful it wasn't worse.

A corner building is damaged on Front Street in the historic district from Thursday's quake near Wells, Nevada.

No one was killed and no serious injuries were reported after the magnitude-6.0 quake jolted the high desert town at 6:16 a.m. Thursday and rumbled across much of the West.

About 20 to 25 buildings suffered heavy damage in the largely vacant historical district of Wells, where brick facades tumbled off several buildings, signs fell and windows broke. A support beam crushed one unoccupied car.

"There are a number of buildings that look completely destroyed," Gov. Jim Gibbons said late Thursday after surveying the damage. "Bricks and mortar and foundations are just about all that is left of them right now."

Gibbons said most everyone was safe, citing just three minor injuries.

"I think we were just blessed that Mother Nature struck when it did ... rather than some time later on when the people would be out and about and the sidewalks might have had more people on them when these structures came down," he said.

County commissioners declared a state of emergency in Wells and the town of about 1,600 was closed to all but residents, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Elko County Commissioner Mike Nannini was standing in the middle of the 4-way Cafe & Casino in Wells when the quake began.

"The walls and ceilings started coming down. Almost all of the businesses are shut down. We have no services and no fuel," he said at an emergency meeting of the county commissioners.

"It just immediately jumped into rattling the walls," said Donna Anderson, who was at the Wagon Wheel residential motel when the quake hit. She said it seemed like the shaking went on for "five or six hours."

"I wasn't terribly scared but it felt like everything was just going to crumble down around us," Anderson said.

The temblor, centered in a sparsely populated area 6 to 12 miles east of Wells, was felt from northern Idaho and Utah to Southern California, officials said. As many as 30 aftershocks were reported.

"It was scary, the scariest thing ever," said Karen Swabb, who lives southeast of Wells in Clover Valley.

"I never imagined it could be like that," she said, adding that friends in Wells told her "one of their fish flew out of the bowl."

By nightfall, about 40 families had registered at a temporary shelter the American Red Cross helped set up at an elementary school.

Wells High School suffered damage and was to remain closed Friday.

Dan Burns, a spokesman for the Nevada Division of Emergency Management, said crews were inspecting roads, bridges and dams for structural damage.

Newmont Mining Corp. Chief Executive Officer Richard O'Brien said an inspection of the underground gold mines in the area "found no deficiencies."

Located along the California Trail traveled by Western pioneers, Wells was founded by Central Pacific Railroad in the 1860s. Thursday's quake temporarily disrupted the railroad now owned by Union Pacific.

Tony Lowry, an assistant professor of geophysics at Utah State University, said the size of the quake and its location was unusual.

"In that part of Nevada, I don't think we've seen any like that in the last 150 years or so," Lowry said. "It's not one of the places we would've looked or expected."

By Thursday afternoon, store owners were taking the cleanup effort in stride.

"It's Mother Nature," said Mitch Smith, owner of the Wells Auto and Hardware store, who was cleaning up spilled paint and other debris. "What good would it do to be upset? We've already decided to have a half-off sale on dented cans of paint."

ACLU - Step up to the plate

My question is this since you seem to be taking the side of illegal immigrant rights. Why are you not taking the side of legal immigrants also? Because most of the illegals in this area are from Mexico, groups are pushing that all forms, etc must be in English and Spanish. What about the legal immigrants from Asia, Europe, Russia, etc? If you are going to push for rights for those here illegally, you should be pushing for rights for those here legally. To me this means if you are not going to print the forms in Chinese, Korean, Finnish, etc, then you should not be printing them in any other language other than English either. You either do it for all or you do it for none. They know coming here that English is the language that is spoken here. If I go to a foreign country, I either learn their language or I am not able to communicate. Because groups are coddling to the illegals from Mexico mostly, this is leading to a lot of the problems we are seeing now. If they had to learn English to assimilate and not demand everything in their language (or coddling to their language) then maybe the issue would not be as bad as it is now.

Warning; a major infestation is going on here folks! Worse than cockroaches! The beaner infestation that took over the Maryvale District of Phoenix is spreading like a swarm of locusts! Here is a list of warning signs that your community might be getting Beanerized.
1) Mariachi music blaring all hours of the night on Fridays and Saturdays as well as holidays.
2) Gangster chulos crusing slow in their chulo mobiles bumping that bass shit music.
3) There is a sudden increase of beer bottles littering the streets and lawns.
4) Cockroaches are moving into the neighborhood. Note; this is a Mexican pet that goes hand in hand with the Beaners. Can't have one without the other.
5) Numerous older Chevy Silverado trucks, Ford SUVs, and Cadillac Suvs with $2,000 rims probably purchased with illegal means.
6) During the typical Beanerization period you will notice a increased police presence in correlation to the numerous shooting, stabbing and robbery calls.
7) The Beanerization process is easy to stop though people.

We have an enemy invading us at our borders and our government is failing to protect us! Think about this for a minute.... If the Beaners can sneak over undetected, so can the terrorists!

The Beaners our not only invading our country, buy they're conquering by spitting out these damn anchor babies by the dozen and are supported by government welfare.

Our government has failed to protect us from invasion and attack. We should contact out legal reps and try to change some of these dumb laws that encourage the Beanerization of American cities.

It doesn't break the camera but it prevents it from photo-shooting speeding vehicles......

WASHINGTON DC – Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed, veteran psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.
"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."
While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."
For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.
Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.
"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state as liberals do."
Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by: creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization; satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation; augmenting primitive feelings of envy; rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.
"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."

RE Warning; Beanerazation is spreading

Deny them jobs and the problem will be solved.
Seriously, don't just do it in one City or one State, do it Nationwide. You will see how quickly they clear out. Make it mandatory that every business owner uses the work eligibility verification program to confirm the status of the employees before they hire. Make them pay a big fine if they refuse to play by the rules and take away their work licences if necessary. This will take care of the problem. Most illegals can't live here if they don't have a job that pays for living expences. But again, this needs to be a law in every state, and in every city. Only then it is going to work. Otherwise, what you'll have is illegals running from one state to another in search of jobs.

LONDON England - Killer robots could become the weapon of choice for militants, a British expert said on Wednesday.

Noel Sharkey, professor of artificial intelligence and robotics at the University of Sheffield said he believed falling costs would soon make robots a realistic option for extremist groups.

Several countries and companies are developing the technology for robot weapons, with the U.S. Department of Defense leading the way. More than 4,000 robots are deployed in Iraq.

"The trouble is that we can't really put the genie back in the bottle. Once the new weapons are out there, they will be fairly easy to copy," Sharkey will tell a one-day conference organized by Britain's Royal United Services Institute on Wednesday.

"How long is it going to be before the terrorists get in on the act? With the current prices of robot construction falling dramatically and the availability of ready-made components for the amateur market, it wouldn't require a lot of skill to make autonomous robot weapons."

Sharkey said a small GPS-guided drone with autopilot could be made for about 250 pounds ($490.00 US Dollars).

A little girl asked her Mom, 'Mom, may I take the dog for a walk around the block?' Mom replies, 'No, because she is in heat.'

'What's that mean?' asked the child.

'Go ask your father. I think he's in the garage.'

The little girl goes to the garage and says, 'Dad, may I take Belle for a walk around the block? I asked Mom, but she said the dog was in heat, and to come to you.'

Dad said, 'Bring Belle over here.' He took a rag, soaked it with gasoline, and scrubbed the dog's backside with it to disguise the scent, and said
'OK, you can go now, but keep Belle on the leash and only go one time round the block.'

The little girl left and returned a few minutes later with no dog on the leash. Surprised, Dad asked, 'Where's Belle?'

( YOU'RE GONNA LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!! )

The little girl said, 'She ran out of gas about halfway down the block, so another dog is pushing her home.'

Hillary went into a pet store & found a beautiful, colorful parrot. "Does this bird talk?" she asked. "Yes he does", the manager replied. "But why is he only $50 and all the other ones are $500?" she asked. "Well, the manager said, "not everyone would want to own this parrot. He spent many years in a whorehouse and his language is terrible."

"Well, I want him", Hillary said. "Suit yourself the manager shrugged. When she got the parrot home, she uncovered his cage and admired him. The parrot tilted his head to one side, looked her straight in the eye and said, "new house, new madam." Hillary laughed.

Soon Chelsea and a friend came in and began admiring the bird. "New house, new whores", the parrot observed. At first they were offended but when Hillary explained about the bird's history they also laughed at him.

A few minutes later, the ex president entered the living quarters. The bird looked up from his feeder and said, "Hi Bill!"

Oil prices set a new intraday high of over $102 a barrel Wednesday.

SINGAPORE -Oil prices broke through a new intraday high of $102 a barrel Wednesday as a slide in the U.S. dollar prompted investors to pump more money into energy futures as a hedge against inflation.

The dollar sank to a record low against the euro after the release of three disheartening U.S. economic reports Tuesday that show that the economy is slowing as prices for consumer goods rise. The dollar's decline prompted investors to seek a safe haven from turmoil in the financial markets and the threat of inflation.

"Crude has cracked through the $100-level again and that's driven by financial investors moving money into commodities markets," said Victor Shum, an energy analyst with Purvin & Gertz in Singapore.

"The U.S. dollar weakened against the euro and the economic data also indicated that inflation in the U.S. rose in January, and commodities are generally considered a hedge against inflation," Shum said. "We are therefore seeing these strong prices that have really little to do with oil market fundamentals."

Light, sweet crude for April delivery spiked as high as $102.08 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange before slipping back to $101.23, up 35 cents.

The contract on Tuesday jumped $1.65 to settle at $100.88 a barrel, a record close.

In London, Brent crude added 33 cents to $99.80 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange, below the intraday record of $100.30 a barrel set earlier in the session.

The U.S. Labor Department said wholesale inflation rose by 1% in January on soaring oil and food costs. And Standard & Poor's also reported that U.S. home prices fell 8.9% in the last three months of 2007 from a year earlier.

A report by the Conference Board, a business-backed research group, that its Consumer Confidence Index fell to the lowest since February 2003, far below what analysts had been expecting, indicated that consumers might continue to curb their spending in the coming months.

But traders in both the energy market and the U.S. stock market, which also advanced sharply, seemed largely unfazed. Oil has risen in recent days amid an increase in speculative buying, with some traders believing that global demand will be high enough to support higher crude prices even if the American economy is slowing.

In currency trading, the euro rose above $1.50 for the first time, reaching $1.5087 before falling back to $1.5040.

Analysts expect the U.S. Energy Department's Energy Information Administration to report later Wednesday that the nation's crude oil stocks rose last week by 2.4 million barrels, which would be the seventh straight week of gains.

Gasoline inventories are expected to rise by 400,000 barrels while supplies of distillates, which include heating oil and diesel, fell by 1.8 million barrels last week, according to a Dow Jones Newswires poll of analysts.

Also supporting prices were concerns about supply disruptions from unrest in Iraq, a major oil exporter. Turkish ground forces pushed their offensive against Kurdish rebels deeper into the north of Iraq, seizing seven guerrilla camps, officials said Tuesday.

In other Nymex trading Wednesday, heating oil futures rose 0.65 cent to $2.8215 a gallon while gasoline prices added 0.2 cents to $2.5525 a gallon.

Natural gas futures lost 2.6 cents to $9.18 per 1,000 cubic feet.

A biker is riding by the zoo, when he sees a little girl leaning into the lion's cage. Suddenly, the lion grabs her by the cuff of her jacket and tries to pull her inside to slaughter her, under the eyes of her screaming parents.

The biker jumps off his bike, runs to the cage and hits the lion square on the nose with a powerful punch. Whimpering from the pain the lion jumps back letting go of the girl, and the biker brings her to her terrified parents, who thank him endlessly.

A reporter has seen the whole scene, and addressing the biker, says - Sir, this was the most gallant and brave thing I saw a man do in my whole life.

- Why, it was nothing, really, the lion was behind bars. I just saw this little kid in danger, and acted as I felt right.

- Well, I'll make sure this won't go unnoticed. I'm a journalist, you know, and tomorrow's papers will have this on the first page. What motorcycle do you ride?

- A Harley Davidson.

The journalist leaves.

The following morning the biker buys the paper to see if it indeed brings news of his actions, and reads, on first page:

Since 1938 the Democrats have held the White house for 35 years, the Republicans for 34. Over that time the national debt has increased at an average annual rate of 8.7%. In years Democrats were in the White House there was an average increase of 8.3%. In years the Republicans ran the White House the debt increased an average 9.7% per year. Those averages aren’t that far apart, but they do show a bias toward more borrowing by Republicans than Democrats even including World War II.

What bad banking news means to you.....
the chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp and banking industry experts foresee many bank failures down the road.
"Regulators are bracing for 100-200 bank failures over the next 12-24 months," says Jaret Seiberg, an analyst with the financial services firm, the Stanford Group.
Expected loan losses, the deteriorating housing market and the credit squeeze are blamed for the drop in bank profits.
The problem areas will be concentrated in the Rust Belt, in places like Ohio and Michigan and other states like California, Florida and Georgia.

Protecting your money......
Here's how to make sure you pick a safe bank. First, look for the FDIC logo at your local branch. If you don't see it, ask the bank, or go to the FDIC's Web site and click on "Bank Find." Here you'll be able to see if the bank carries this guarantee.
his step is especially important if you're using an Internet-only bank or a bank you've never heard of. You can also check out the financial health of a banking institution at www.bankrate.com.
The FDIC also maintains a list of bank rating agencies on its Web site that can assess a banks financial stability. But in many cases, these companies charge a fee.
As loan delinquencies rise, and bank failures increase, the FDIC is shoring up its reserves. The agency is bringing back formerly retired employees to bolster a division that deals specifically with bank failures. Many of these agency veterans worked for the FDIC during the late 1980s and early 1990s, when thousands of financial institutions failed during the savings-and-loan crisis according to Barr..
Know your limits:
As an individual, your deposits are insured up to $100,000 in an FDIC-insured bank. This includes your savings, your checking, any certificate of deposits (CDs) and money market accounts. Joint accounts can be insured up to $200,000.
IRAs and Keoghs these are retirement plans for people who are self-employed can be insured up to $250,000. These retirement accounts are considered separate from your individual bank accounts.
If you have money in a credit union, the same protections exist. However, instead of the FDIC insurance, deposits are insured under the National Credit Union Administration, another government agency.
Of course, banks offer much more than your bread-and-butter savings and checking accounts. Some offer investments such as mutual funds or stock funds, which generally promise higher rates of return than CDs, are not insured by the FDIC nor are they insured by the broker/dealer. The general rule is deposits are FDIC-guaranteed, but not investments.
And keep in mind, annuities, life insurance policies even the contents of your safe-deposit box are not insured. If you're worried you don't have enough insurance on your accounts, the FDIC Web site has a tool that will allow you to calculate your insurance coverage. It's called the electronic deposit insurance estimator or EDIE for short. You can also call the agency at 877-ASK-FDIC.
And rest assured if you have U.S. savings bonds or treasury bills, the principle and interest on these products are backed by the faith and credit of the federal government so there's no risk of default as long as you don't sell these products before they mature says McBride.
If your bank bites the dust, there's nothing to fear according to the FDIC. A healthier banking institution normally buys the failed bank according to Barr. "There is little or no interruption to the consumer," he says. "If you go to bed one night as a customer of a bank, and you wake up as a customer of a new bank, there is nothing you have to do." Your checks will still clear, you can still use your ATM card.
But, there can be changes to the terms of your original deposit. For example, if you took out a CD with an annual percentage rate of 3.5 percent, it's entirely possible the new bank will drop that interest rate. If that happens, you have the option to withdraw your funds without penalty.
Loans are handled differently. If you took out a loan with a bank, for example an auto loan or a mortgage, those interest rates and terms of interest remain the same regardless of the new bank.
If no buyer can be found to take over the failed bank, customers are written a check with their deposit money within 48 hours.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke tried to ease lawmakers' concerns that the central bank's interest-rate cuts will exacerbate inflation.
While we can't do much about oil prices or food prices in the short run, we do have to be careful to make sure that those prices do not either feed substantially into other types of prices, Bernanke told the Senate Banking Committee today. The Fed must ensure that the public remains confident that it will control inflation, he said.
Senate Republicans and Democrats grilled the Fed chief on price stability during the second day of semiannual testimony on the economy to Congress. Bernanke said the Fed's forecast is for growth to strengthen and prices to stabilize as food and energy costs stop climbing in the months ahead.
Bernanke reiterated his message from yesterday that growth risks outweigh the chance of faster inflation, with recent data indicating sluggish economic activity in the near term. His deputy, Donald Kohn, said in a Feb. 26 speech that turmoil in credit markets and the possibility of even slower growth pose a greater threat than inflation.
Bernanke acknowledged that the Fed's congressional mandate to achieve both stable prices and maximum employment is facing competing challenges.
Inflationary Stress - We have simultaneously a slowdown in the economy, stress in the financial markets, and inflation pressures coming from these commodity prices abroad, Bernanke said at the Senate Banking Committee. The surge in commodity costs is creating an inflationary stress which is complicating the Federal Reserve's attempts to respond, he said.
The U.S. economy expanded at a 0.6 percent annual pace in the fourth quarter, the Commerce Department said today. Domestic spending declined and only an increase in exports prevented an overall contraction. The consumer price index rose 4.3 percent in January from a year earlier.
They wouldn't be cutting rates in the face of accelerating inflation, and a weakening U.S. dollar, unless they were very concerned about the risk of recession, said Paul Kasriel, director of economic research at Northern Trust Co. in Chicago. It is a tricky situation.
Different Tone -Two weeks ago, in his last appearance before the Senate panel, Bernanke said he saw a somewhat stronger pace of growth starting later this year. Neither he nor Kohn repeated that point in remarks this week, though Bernanke said this month's economic stimulus legislation should provide some support for household spending during the second half of this year and into next year.
The median forecast of Fed officials calls for inflation to fall back to 1.7 percent to 2 percent next year from 2.1 percent to 2.4 percent this year. Growth should pick up to 2.1 percent to 2.7 percent from 1.3 percent to 2 percent this year, according to projections released with the testimony and in minutes of the Jan. 29-30 meeting.
We have to make our policy in trying to balance these different risks in a way that will get the best possible outcome of the American economy, Bernanke said at the hearing in Washington today.
Fed officials have cut the benchmark lending rate 2.25 percentage points since September, to 3 percent. More than half of that reduction came in January alone when central bankers cut the rate 1.25 percentage points, the fastest in two decades.
Several senators from both major political parties expressed concern about inflation or the weaker dollar.
Fed Response Scrutinized - Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat, asked whether the Fed has better tools now than in the 1970s for controlling inflation. Robert Menendez, a Democrat from New Jersey, questioned Bernanke about whether revving up a slow economy'' was easier than slowing inflation once it has become entrenched.
Senator Richard Shelby of Alabama, the ranking Republican on the Banking Committee, asked Bernanke if the Fed's rate cuts have limited the options that can be used to combat the upside risk of inflation.
The Fed chief responded that the Fed is watching inflation and price expectations very carefully without signaling when or what it would take for policy makers to raise interest rates.
Bernanke warned that the Fed should avoid setting its main rate below the pace of inflation for an extended'' period.
Adjusted for the three-month annualized rate of the personal consumption expenditures price index, minus food and energy, the target federal funds rate is 0.3 percent.
Keeping so-called real interest rates near zero is not something you want to do for a sustained period,'' the Fed chief said today.
Dismissing Comparisons - He dismissed suggestions that the U.S. economy is close to the conditions of stagnant growth and high inflation, or stagflation,'' experienced in the 1970s.
I don't think we are anywhere near the situation that prevailed in the 1970s,'' he said.
Shelby asked Bernanke about risks to banks that are heavily involved'' in real estate lending.
There probably will be some bank failures, Bernanke said. There are, for example, some small, or, in many cases, de novo banks that are heavily invested in real estate in locales where prices have fallen.
He added that capital ratios remain good for the largest banks. I don't anticipate any serious problems of that sort among the large, internationally active banks that make up a very substantial part of our banking system.

Sneezing Attack

A man and a woman were sitting beside each other in the first class section of an airplane.

The woman sneezed, took out a tissue, gently wiped her nose, and then visibly shuddered for ten to fifteen seconds.

The man went back to his reading.

A few minutes later, the woman sneezed again, took a tissue, wiped her nose, and then shuddered violently once more.

Assuming that the woman might have a cold, the man was still curious about the shuddering.

A few more minutes passed when the woman sneezed yet again.

As before she took a tissue, wiped her nose, her body shaking even more than before.

Unable to restrain his curiosity, the man turned to the woman,

'I couldn't help but notice' he said, 'that you've sneezed three times, wiped your nose and then shuddered violently. Are you ok?'

'I am sorry if I disturbed you,' she replied. 'I have a very rare medical condition; whenever I sneeze I have an orgasm.'

The man, more than a bit embarrassed, was still curious.

'I have never heard of that condition before,' he said. 'Are you taking anything for it?'

The woman nodded, 'Black Pepper.'

Deadly toxin found at Las Vegas hotel.........
Police in Las Vegas, Nevada, are investigating the discovery of the deadly poison ricin in a hotel room Thursday.
Authorities were called to an Extended Stay America hotel around 3 p.m. after a man brought a bag holding a small container to the manager's office. The man said he found it while retrieving items from a hotel room.
It's "100 percent ricin," said Capt. Joe Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. "We don't know who (the ricin) belongs to or why it would be here at this time."
Three hotel employees and a fourth person who came to the room to retrieve some items were taken to the hospital as a precaution, Officer Ramon Dendy told CNN. Three police officers who went into the room are also being watched at the hospital. None of the seven have shown symptoms of ricin poisoning, which can include anything from difficulty breathing, fever, cough, nausea and sweating to severe vomiting and dehydration.
"We did have enough ricin to be of concern," Lombardo said. "At this point, it has been contained and processed where it's not a threat to anybody."
Lombardo said the "area of concern" is under quarantine and is going through a decontamination process. All seven people have been decontaminated.
Police said they don't know how many people have stayed in the room recently.
The discovery of ricin alarms law-enforcement agencies because authorities in several countries have investigated links between suspect extremists and ricin.
This is not a terror incident at this point," Lombardo said.
Lombardo said police do not have any suspects at this time.
Ricin is a poison that can be made from waste left over after processing castor beans, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The toxin can come in the form of a mist or pellet and can be dissolved in water or weak acid, according to the CDC. The agency also says the toxin works by getting inside the cells of a person's body and preventing the cells from making the proteins they need.
As little as 500 micrograms an amount the size of the head of a pin can kill an adult. It is not yet known how much of the material was found in the room.
Lombardo said authorities found castor beans in the room and also powder in a small vial. He said ricin is not illegal to own, but is illegal if processed to be used for poisoning someone.
There have been other reported cases involving ricin in the United States. In January 2005, an Ocala, Florida man with no known ties to terrorists or extremists was arrested by the FBI after agents found ricin in the home he lives in with his mother.
Ricin was found in February 2004 in the mailroom of the Dirksen Senate Office building in Washington, D.C. The mailroom handles correspondence addressed to several U.S. lawmakers.
